What does advertising at the top of the phone book or internet search mean? Does being at the top mean your the best? Does having the first spot mean your the most qualified?
Advertisers call our company all day every day asking if we want to be featured in the top spot on Google, Bing, Yahoo and many more. When hiring a professional company remember that hiring the top advertiser isn’t always the best way to go. Being at the top of the phone book the internet search flat out means more expensive. Being that they pay more expense towards advertising be prepared to be charged more for the same service another company is just as qualified to complete. Be smart when finding the right person. Most people look lower on the first page and onto the second and third pages of any search engine. Searching the organic way is always the best way. Ask a friend or family member always before hiring a service man.

Imagine your worst nightmare
Backup:
Overflowing of water threw a plumbing fixture due to a drainage block.
Having a backed up drain isn’t fun. Before panicking step number one is to make sure all the water is off on the property. Next go onto your computer and search for a plumber that services your area and call at least two different people. We don’t recommend people going to buy chemicals for $5 and try cleaning drains themselves. Ninety five percent of the time people end up calling a professional anyways and after more of a nightmare has occurred. Don’t pour any substance that you buy from a store down your drain without consulting a plumber first. If your not familiar with cleaning drains don’t try and tackle it yourself. Having a broken pipe in the wall isn’t a fun repair if you don’t service this kind of work day in and day out. Starting a relationship with a plumber you can trust is the way to go. Call in and trust our company.

Be careful with what you put down pipes
Acid:
A chemical substance (typically, a corrosive or sour-tasting liquid) that neutralizes alkalis, dissolves some metals, and turns litmus red.
Make sure what your pouring down your drains isn’t harmful in the long run. Before pouring anything down your drains contact a plumber. Don’t just pour cause you think it’s right.

Helping customers is what we do!
This past week our company helped out many neighbors and customers with all sorts of plumbing related problems. Being that the weekend is ahead i’d like to share two quick stories. This past Tuesday our company was called to clean out a main sewer line from the house to street at one of our former customers. After about two hours we found out that their main city line got re-lined. What we didn’t know was that the company that installed the new liner forgot to open up the access for this customers service to drain. The client was extremely happy we came out and figured out the problem before is was to late.
The second story as well has to do with a client hiring our company to clean their main sewer line. The customer had another company in their house the day before and told them that there was no way to open the line and that it was time to dig. This customer took matters into their own hands and called around for quotes and a second opinion. This nice couple got a hold of our company at 7pm that night and we serviced them at 9am the following morning. When my service tech got to work we started cleaning the sewer line. After about three hours of hard work we pulled out a very heavy amount of roots. We then inspected the line with our camera technology and told the couple to have this line maintained every year and they should be fine. We ended up saving this family 12,000 for a digging repair that wasn’t even necessary. Hire a company that you trust or hear about and make sure to do your due diligence before a company wants to dig or do any large repairs. Always get a second opinion before its to late.

Granite sinks REALLY?
When beginning shopping for a stainless steel sink or a granite sink which should it be? There are many good and bad features to each sink. Granite is very durable because it comes from one large piece of stone. Every piece is unique and looks different from the next. Granite doesn’t stain easily at all and is heat-resistant. People have been worried about putting granite in kitchen cause of their fragility. But “If you
know how to care for your stone sink, it will last for a hundred years.”
Stainless steel sinks on the other hand have been around for a very long time. We all know how durable they are and how easy they are clean up. They blend with many colors and there affordable for everyone’s budget. They don’t chip, or stain, or tarnish. Just like granite sinks they are also heat resistant. Some of the defaults are that they scratch, get dull over time and are only available in one color.
Some questions to ask before purchasing a sink are:
• Do you want a sink with a single bowl or a double bowl?
• Do you want one with a soap dispenser? A hot water dispenser? A
filtered water dispenser?
• How do you plan to mount your sink: top mount or under mount
• Do you want a sink that is built in to your countertop?
• How deep do you need your sink to be?
• Do you want something custom?

Don’t let looks deceive you!
It’s very interested when we see pedestal sinks. Most of the time when we go into a clients home we ask them the question why did you choose to have a pedestal sink installed instead of a vanity style sink. The answer most the time is, they like the sleek look to them and they also keep from having extra clutter around. What we find funny is, most of the time when people have pedestal sinks they end up storing bottles of cleaning supplies around the base of the unit. Having products stored around the base just takes away all the appeal of the sink. So we ask them again, where’s the sleek look? Most people like vanity style sinks so they can store all sorts of eye sore items out of view. Some pro’s of the pedestal sinks are that they come in many different looking styles that range from contemporary to Victorian, and the sink is 100% the focal point of the room. Some major con’s are that they don’t have any storage space and that they are very hard and time consuming to install, yet alone cleaning the sink once it clogs up. Always hire a professional to install a pedestal sink. Call us for estimates today.

Plumbing terms are important to know
What is a Valve?
Valve is equipment designed to stop or regulate flow of any fluid (liquid, gas, condensate, stem, slurry etc.) in its path.
It’s important to have a valve on every fixture in your home in case of a leak. Leaks aren’t always the easiest and friendliest to repair. People think plumbing is straight forward and anyone can replace anything. What people don’t know is the damage plumbing can cause. Leave any professional work to the service men that train and are knowledgeable in their field of excellence. Look around your home at your sinks, toilets & tubs and make sure there’s a shut-off valve for each fixture. If not please call us today to help resolve your problems.

Looks don’t always beat practicality
Access Panel –
A removable opening in a wall or ceiling that allows you to access
plumbing or electrical without hassle.
Its important to have access to all plumbing in your home. Some people don’t like the look of access panels but they can be hidden and look nice at the same time. Once the plumbing starts to have problems you have no choice but to start putting whole into your walls and ceilings to find the source of the issue. Access panels don’t always have to look hideous. Most the time access panels are hidden in closets. Other times that’s not always the case. Here are some pictures of exposed access panels that look good and nobody with even comment. Having access to your plumbing is very important and remember looks don’t always beat practicality. Be smart when building and repairing these types of holes once the plumber is finished with the repair or installation. Hiawatha Sewer is here for any service and help you may need.
