Having a good steady stream of water is key while showering. Think back to time when your traveling or away at school and the water pressure in the shower just isn’t up to your standards. Make sure your water lines can handle the type of shower your creating. Multiple shower head and jets must have a big enough water line going to them. If your water line going to the shower valves aren’t large enough the pressure in your shower will be disappointing. Consult a plumber if your not sure about your water pressure. If your designing your own walk-in shower it’s very time consuming, but is worth every second in the end. Call Hiawatha Sewer for any shower questions.
Enjoy and have fun creating your new shower!

Keep your kitchen sink clog free!
Weather you live in a house, condo or apartment building having a clogged kitchen sink is never fun. The damage that can occur from water leaking onto your kitchen floor can cause major unwanted expense. If water sits long enough on wood floors in the kitchen you may be looking at replacing the entire floor. Tile floors are the best floors to have installed in a kitchen. Tile floors do get hard on the joints to stand on, but do hold up in situations like these. If your experiencing any kind of water leak in your kitchen contact a plumber today. Turn off the shut-off valves to whichever fixture has sprung a leak. Remember, just because you might only have a small leak it can quickly turn into a nightmare. Most leaks occur when out of town or at work. Don’t come home surprised that your kitchen and or more is ruined. Be smart and call Hiawatha Sewer today to fix your problem before it comes worse. 10% off all new customers and 5% off all old customers!

Is your main sewer line clean out broken?
Having a broken clean out can be very disturbing. Many problems can occur from having a clean out that is broken. First off if the cover doesn’t have a tight seal sewer gas can get into your home. If you have sewer smell in your own contact a plumber immediately. Second, if your clean out doesn’t have a tight seal, animals that live in the sewers can easily get into your home. Some areas have large sized rats that live in your sewer. I don’t think it would be fun waking up or coming home from work one day to find rats roaming your house.
Bottom line is, if you have a cracked sewer line get it fixed asap. Call Hiawatha Sewer to get started.

What do you do when seeing a GREAT plumbing flier in your mail?
Everyday our company receives what I call “Junk Mail” and discount fliers. When I first glance at the discounts they sound great but then I take time to see what it actually says. Just recently I received a plumbing flier that said “save $95 OFF any plumbing installation”. Being that I know what plumbing costs are I call the company. I asked how much it would be to install a new toilet I just purchased. The secretary said it would cost over $1000 if all the plumbing under the toilet was up to code and toilet depending. I kindly hung up the phone. I then took some time and went online to call some of my competitors. I got prices from $905-2,200 to install my new toilet I just bought.
Bottom line when receiving fliers for great discounts in the mail, always do your due diligence before hiring. Before scheduling an appointment make other calls to the competitors and see if the price is right. First step to saving money is to shop around. Hire Hiawatha Sewer a local company that’s been around since 1947. We also have many friends companies in the service field if we can not help you.

Garbage Disposal
Garbage disposals are fun to have but be smart with what you put down. The higher the horse power means the more you can put down. Remember to always run water while putting debris in the disposal so you don’t burn up the motor. Next time you replace your disposal, if you have the room underneath your sink consider installing a 3/4 horse power. Rule number one to owning a garbage disposal is to NEVER EVER put your bare hand in the unit. Even if the power is off never take the chance. Call Hiawatha Sewer today to help unclog or install your garbage disposal before you make the issue worse. Rule two is to NEVER put any store bought or home made chemicals down any of your drains.

Things to know
There are some main keys to know while waiting for a plumber. First of all know where your main water shut-off valve is located. Second, know where your electrical box is located in case of an emergency. If your having a flood in a certain area on a specific fixture turn off the shut-off valve that goes with the fixture. If you don’t have a shut-off valve on that fixture have a plumber install one before it’s to late. If you can’t isolate a water leak locate the main water shut off valve and turn it off immediately. This doesn’t solve the problem but it will be the best thing to do before the professionals arrive. Have the plumbers help you locate all the shut-off valves and have some labels to make life easier in the future.
